The latest news from the State Capitol
The 2017-18 Session Is Underway
Tuesday was swearing-in day at the state Capitol. It was great having my wife, Lisa, and daughter, Caroline, in Harrisburg for the ceremony.

My fifth term of service in the General Assembly has now begun, and I look forward to working for and with you in the 2017-18 session.
The Numbers Through December - Pennsylvania collected $2.6 billion in General Fund revenue in December, which was $105.2 million less than anticipated. Fiscal year-to-date General Fund collections total $13.5 billion, which is $367 million below estimate.

Sales tax receipts totaled $11.1 million below estimate and are $133.3 million less than anticipated year-to-date. Personal Income Tax revenue in December was $44.7 million below estimate and is $125.9 million below estimate with six months remaining in the fiscal year.
Attention High School Seniors – You can now apply for a Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship to help cover the costs of higher education.

Each year, two students preparing for post-secondary education are awarded four-year scholarships through the program. It is open to graduating high school seniors who are Pennsylvania residents with plans to attend a Pennsylvania college, university or career school as a full-time student.

Students must have attained a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average in high school in order to be eligible for the scholarship. A student’s commitment to community, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and financial need are also taken into consideration.

To apply, interested students should visit my website,, and go to “Education Information” on the left navigation bar for more information and an application.

No tax money or other public funds are used.
Congratulations….to Matthew Kephart of Philipsburg, Eric Neidrick of Morrisdale and Quinton O’Rourke of Wilcox, who are among the latest graduates of the State Police Academy in Hershey. Trooper Kephart has been assigned to Troop D, Butler, while Troopers Neidrick and O’Rourke will be working out of Troop C, Punxsutawney.
