Thomas Putnam, artistic director for Hamilton-Gibson Productions, has announced audition and registration dates and locations for Hamilton-Gibson's "Madagascar Junior" Winter Theater Arts Camp in Elkland.

Auditions and registration for third through ninth graders living in the Northern Tioga School District area will be at the Clark Wood Elementary School at 110 Addison Hill Road in Elkland on Tuesday, Jan. 10; at Williamson High School at 33 Junction Cross Road in Tioga on Friday, Jan. 13; and at Cowanesque Valley High School at 51 North Fork Road in Westfield on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

A registration form must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian in order for students to audition for the show and participate in the camp.

Adapted from DreamWorks' blockbuster animated film "Madagascar," this musical follows the escape of the four crack-a-lackin’ friends from their home in New York's Central Park Zoo and their unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien's Madagascar.

There are speaking and non-speaking parts in the show. Many members in the cast will sing and dance.

Among the 26 speaking roles are: Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo, the three Zookeepers, Mason the chimpanzee, The Lemurs - a wild band of creatures native to Madagascar whose leader is King Julien, The Foosa - cat-like predators with an appetite for Lemurs, three Servers, The Lionesses - a group of lady lions who are Alex’s backup singers, Camaraman, Candy Hammernose, Passerby, Old Lady, two Police Officers, Animal Control Officers, Newspaper Man, Ship’s Captain and two separate ensembles - the New Yorkers and the Animals.

Students who earn roles in the cast will be given the "Madagascar, Junior" script and CD to take home to memorize their lines and songs by Jan. 23, the first day of camp.

The two-week camp will be every day after school from Monday, Jan. 23 through Thursday, Feb. 2 plus on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The campers will give a school-time matinee performance of the musical on Friday, Feb. 3 and two Pay-What-You-Can shows for the public at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3 and 4.

All performances and the camp will be held in the auditorium adjacent to the Clark Wood Elementary School in Elkland. Each camper will receive a T-shirt, the script, printed materials and instruction in theatre arts.

This camp is free of charge to students living in the Northern Tioga School District area due to a grant provided by camp sponsor, the Deerfield Charitable Trust.
