The new Central PA Food Bank Livestock Donation Program, which encourages you to purchase a hog or steer at the Junior Livestock Sale this Tuesday and then donate it to the Central PA Food Bank, which will donate the ground beef or sausage to neighbors in need through 900 partners across central PA. Auctiongoers bid the youth-owned market animals far above standard market prices as a way to support and encourage their education and involvement in the agriculture industry. Often, they will put the animal "on buyback," where a commercial producer or auction will purchase the animal at a fair market value -- the buyer pays the difference, or "promotional value." This way, the buyer can gain extra satisfaction: supporting a deserving young exhibitor and helping to feed neighbors who are at risk for hunger. We could use your assistance in getting the word out!
