Panther Women Run Winning Streak to Four Games

By Scott Elliott
BRADFORD, Pa. - Pitt-Bradford women’s hoops surrendered just 18 first half points Wednesday night en route to blowing out visiting Penn State Altoona, 97-58.

It was the Panthers’ fourth straight victory heading into Saturday’s matchup with rival Penn State Behrend.

Pitt-Bradford never trailed in the game, hitting five first quarter threes, and led 35-9 after the first 10 minutes. Penn State Altoona mustered just nine more points in the second quarter, and Ali Rinfrette’s layup shortly before half gave the Panthers a comfortable 52-18 margin at the break.

The only question in the second half was whether the Panthers would reach the century mark, and they nearly did. Jennifer Isenberg’s basket with 1:41 left made it 95-53, but the Panthers missed a pair of three-pointers on their next possession, squashing any chance at reaching triple-digits.

Pitt-Bradford shot 44 percent from the field and was 10 of 25 from long-range. The Panthers forced 25 turnovers, scoring 28 points off the miscues, and outrebounded the Lions by 20. Penn State Altoona hit on 33 percent of its attempts and was just 6-27 from behind the three-point line.

Brittany Watts led the scoring effort with 19 points and 10 rebounds, her third double-double of the season, and Kaserra Owens and Rinfrette each totaled 10 points apiece. The Panther benched finished with a season-high 46 points, led by Allison Guengerich’s 14 and Isenberg’s 10, as all 11 players scored.

Pitt-Bradford improves to 6-5 on the season and 4-1 in the AMCC. Saturday’s contest with Penn State Behrend is scheduled to tip at 1 p.m.
