SHARPSVILLE, Mercer County, PA – Sharpsville police Saturday evening obtained an arrest warrant charging a Sharpsville man with criminal homicide in the death of a Masury woman at a Sharpsville apartment complex.
Antonio A. Velazquez-Rupert already was in police custody in Reading, Pa. He was arrested there Saturday afternoon after an AMBER Child Abduction Alert was issued concerning an 8-month-old girl.
Police also charged the 36-year-old Velazquez-Rupert with kidnapping and interfering with the custody of children.
Mercer County Coroner John Libonati identified the victim as Amanda Downes, 28. Dr. Eric Vey of Erie will conduct an autopsy Monday afternoon and Libonati and Sharpsville Police Chief Christopher Hosa will attend, Libonati said.
She suffered a traumatic head injury, said Mercer County District Attorney Miles K. Karson Jr.
Police were called at 12:13 p.m. to 331 Canterbury Court and the woman, found in a second-floor apartment, was already dead, Hosa said.
A baby, Ariella Downes, was missing, so police issued the AMBER Alert with information about Velazquez-Rupert and his sport-utility vehicle. Velazquez-Rupert was believed to be heading to Reading. Police there found him at 3:38 p.m. Read more...
