ServSafe Food Safety Course

ServSafe is a certification program developed by the Restaurant Association Education Foundation. The course meets certification requirements for individuals who are responsible for the safe handling of food in restaurants, schools, elder care facilities, lodges, bed & breakfasts, community centers, and other food concessions (organizations or businesses that sell or prepare food on a regular basis).

This class is being held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Education Council’s Port Allegany office. The exam will be given immediately following the class. The cost is $185 and includes book, study guide and exam. Registration deadline is Thursday, February 9. If its developed by the Restaurant Association Education Foundation then it should be financed by them. Get grants or have the state government finance it.
Most of the individuals working in the business are making minimum wage or less and should not be expected to pay to have a job. Actually, most of these people could make just as much money on welfare but they choose to be productive and work for a living.
Some of these food service facilities are supported by the state and federal govt.
to ask these people to take this certification and pay for it is disgusting and insulting.
Bottom line is the training, tests, and requirement should not be 'required' at all.
