Understanding Construction Documents

Learn how to read, interpret and understand Architectural and Engineering drawings and how they are organized. Learn what Construction Specifications are and why they are critical to the success of any construction project. Learn about the submittal process that ensures quality control during construction and documents methods and materials used.

We will learn about the National CAD Standards and how they can help to more quickly locate items between separate drawings or even on the same sheet. We will review the Construction Specifications Institute’s Master Formatting which organizes all materials and methods listed in the specifications. Also there will be an introduction to BIM (Building Information Modeling), the latest trend in creating construction documents on the computer with integral coordination between Architects, Consulting Engineers and Contractors.

This class is being held Tuesday and Thursday, February 7, 9, and 16, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Education Council’s Port Allegany office. The cost is $100 per person. The registration deadline is January 31. Register online at or call (814) 545-1333.
