Christine A. Fire

Christine A. Fire, 97, of Bradford, PA, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

She was born on July 31, 1919 in Bradford, a daughter of the late Fred D. and Lena Alvino Ross.

She was a 1938 graduate of the St. Bernard School.

On August 7, 1941 in the St. Bernard Catholic Church she married Frank J. Fire who preceded her in death on June 22, 2004.

Christine was first employed at the New Method Lighter Company. Then for several years she worked as a bookkeeper for the A.J. Douglas & Sharp Insurance Company and Bradford Wholesale. In later years, Christine was employed by A.J. Olsen Clothing Store as a salesclerk. Her most rewarding career was that of being a homemaker for her family.

Christine possessed a variety of talents and interest over the years. From High School through young adulthood, she was a student at the Miriam Krienson School of Dance. She was featured as a solo tap dancer in numerous shows at Shea’s Theatre. Her most memorable and challenging performance was a choreographed number tap dancing up and down a theatre’s set of dual grand staircases. In later years, Christine’s talents led her to crocheting countless afghans for her family. She also held an interest in ceramic arts & crafts, creating many pottery items and designs.

She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church where she was a lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s Club. She was a member of the Current Events Club and a past member of the Bradford Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and a past volunteer for the Bradford chapter of the American Red Cross.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Fire of Warren; one daughter, Nancy Fire of Bradford, three grandchildren, Lisa (Anthony) Novelli, Maria (Chris) Demaggio and Joey (Renata) Fire; seven great grandchildren; a niece, Helen Carroll of Bradford; a nephew, Fred Ross of Henrietta, NY; a great niece, Lisa Curlee and a great nephew, Joseph Connelly.

In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Maria Borsa and Helen Ross; one brother, Gabriel Ross and one infant brother, Fred Ross.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February, 15, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM at the St. Bernard Catholic Church with the Rev. Stanley Swacha, senior associate of St. Bernard Catholic Church.

Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

In lieu of Mass cards the family has asked that contributions in her memory may be made to the St. Bernard Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2394, Bradford, PA 16701, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc.
