Kathleen A. “Kay” Cummings

Kathleen A. “Kay” Cummings, 68, of Bradford, PA went home with the Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2017; her life’s destination, for she was named after the Irish ballad “I’ll Take You Home Again, Kathleen”.

Kathleen was born on March 13, 1948 in Bradford, a daughter of the late Daniel J. and Viola G. Shannon Cummings.

She attended grade school at the St. Bernard School and was a member of the first freshman class at Bradford Central Christian High School, graduating in 1966. That same year she received a High School Diploma in classical piano as taught by Sister M. Maurita. In 1986 she returned to Sister Maurita and earned a Collegiate Certificate in classical piano, receiving a standing ovation during her recital for her rendition of “The Warsaw Concerto”. Prior to that she attended Villa Maria College in Erie, PA and the Olean Business Institute in Olean, NY.

Kathleen worked as a professional seamstress in the 1970’s making crib accessories for a store in Bala Cynwood, PA named “The Baby’s Room”. One of these accessories, a string of elephants, was once featured in their ad in Philadelphia Magazine. Later, she worked for the City of Bradford Police Department as a meter maid and dispatcher. Then at the Bradford Regional Medical Center; retiring in 2008 due to ill health after 23 years of service.

Kathleen is survived by three children, Daniel J. Yale, Edward J. Yale and Anne E. (Zechariah Szoke) Cummings all of Bradford; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn M. (Phillip Good) Yale, Abigail E. Szoke and Alexander E. Szoke all of Bradford; one great grandson, Donald Good of Bradford; one sister, Nancy E. (Benjamin) Grimes of Newark, DE; one brother, Daniel J. (Bernadette) Cummings of Mays Landing, NJ and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, James H. and Myrtle Cook Shannon; her paternal grandparents, Harry and Mary Daley Cummings; several aunts and uncles and three cousins, Gregory Shannon, Michael Shannon and Raymond Shannon.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be held on Friday at the funeral home at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor of St. Bernard Catholic Church officiating.

Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc.
