Search for missing man in landfill collapse comes to tragic end

KERSEY — Days of searching for the man at the site of a landslide at Greentree Landfill came to a tragic end Friday when his body was found buried under dirt and debris.

William L. Pierce, 49, of DuBois, was identified by state police Friday at the landfill, located on Toby Road in Kersey, Elk County.

During a press conference at the landfill office Friday afternoon, Trooper Bruce A. Morris, public information officer with the Pennsylvania State Police, said Pierce was found dead inside a wheeled trash compactor Friday morning. Read more...
