St. Marys zoning board upholds city's ordinance zoning oil & gas development

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys zoning hearing board has upheld the city’s zoning ordinance amendment regulating oil and gas development within its borders.

The decision comes after Seneca Resources appealed its validity nearly one year ago.

“The biggest concern of ours is the people of St. Marys — the homeowners, the farmers, the people with camps, the people who want to have a future here — and protecting their investment which is their homes and land,” zoning board chairman Dean Hansen said as the board made its decision.  Read more....

This is wonderful. If more communitit's could enact this kind of control, it would show that boroughs and townships really do have the safety of their citizens to be a number one concern of officials who represent these people. I realize that in other areas of the state have had these rulings overturned and a type of emminette domain has taken charge of the area and they were forced to allow these drillingsites to proceed. I don't understand how this can happen when the people of the area have deemed a danger does exist. Let's hope that doesn't happen in this case and any other entity tries to pass regulations that the citizens do desire. Good luck you guys and hopefully your rulings will stand, good job!
