Victim of Landfill Collapse Found Deceased; Identified

The man missing since a landslide at Greentree Landfill on Wednesday has been found dead.

49-year-old William Pierce of DuBois was found at 1:20 this afternoon and pronounced dead by Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio at 1:25 p.m. She says he likely died of blunt force trauma to the head, but added that the official cause of death won't be determined until an autopsy is performed on Saturday.

State Police Communications Officer Trooper Bruce Morris says Pierce’s body was found inside a compacting machine 40 feet under the trash.

Morris said four other workers at the landslide on Wednesday escaped without injury.

Pierce worked for Advanced Disposal for 16 1/2 years.
