First Presbyterian and Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Galeton, 3-19-17

by Martha Pennell,

Throughout Lent Galeton area churches join together for soup suppers each Sunday from 5 to 6 pm at St. Bibiana’s church social hall.

Galeton Food Pantry opens Friday, March 24th, at 10 am at Saint Paul’s Lutheran church.

To benefit the Galeton Area School after-school program, a dinner will be held at the Moose Lodge Saturday, March 25th, from 6 to 8 pm. Contact Pastor Tom Shatto at 435-2882, or cell phone 570-367-0041 to purchase tickets (cost is $10).

Jesus told a woman at a well he would give her living water and everyone who drinks of it will never thirst (John 4: 14).

Pastor Tom told us Jesus gives peace and quality living that includes deep, abiding confidence in God’s love.

Two things can rob us of this peace.

The first is worry.

The Israelites worried about their water and complained to Moses. God told Moses to hit a rock with his stick to obtain water (Exodus 17: 1-6).

God meets people’s needs all the time; with him nothing is impossible. The second thing is feeling unworthy. Every person is a child of God for whom Jesus died, everyone has great worth.

Pastor Tom explained the woman at the well was unsure of her worth. Jesus trusted her and talked to her, building her up, and on another day he died for her on the cross.

Christ loves us and died for us.

We do not have to worry if we are acceptable because God is in love with us and gave us peace through Jesus. The cross says it all.

We should let go of worry and value ourselves because we have peace in the abiding love of God. Jesus, keep us near the cross!
