Phyllis A. Patrick
Phyllis A. Patrick, 67, of Marsh Grove Lane, Southport, NC, formerly of Bordell Road in Smethport, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
Born January 15, 1950 in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of the late John and Helen (Booth) Patrick.
She graduated with honors from Smethport High School in 1967. She received her B.S. in Psychology from Penn State University and her M.B.A. in Healthcare Administration from Cornell University.
Phyllis was the first Information Security Officer at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan as well as the Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at Mt. Sinai Hospital for Special Surgery, also in Manhattan.
In 2014, she founded and served as President of Phyllis A. Patrick and Associates, LLC, a consulting group that provided strategic planning, security and privacy services to the healthcare industry.
Phyllis was a member of the Ponemon Institute RIM. She was a frequent speaker at national and regional conferences and professional associations. She was a member of the Greater NY Hospital Association and a member of NC Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance, Inc. She was a member of the New England Healthcare Internal Auditors Board of Directors and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Briefings on HIPAA, a member of the Compliance Advisory Board for Wolters Kluwer Law and Business. She published a book in July, 2014, ‘The Complete Guide to Healthcare Privacy and Information Security Governance.’
Surviving is a brother, Richard (Kathy) Patrick of Skiatook, OK; a sister, Julia (Nelson) Tanner, Jr. of Smethport; nieces, Deanna Bashore, Danielle Parker and Vicki Tanner; a nephew, Rick Patrick; a great niece, Kristin Bennett; a great nephew, Austin Bashore; several cousins and friends, including Sandy Foster and Dr. Martha Adams.
Private funeral services will be held for the family at a later date. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Farmers Valley. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc.
