16TH ANNUAL FAMILY DAY AND CHILDREN’S HEALTH FAIR

Stitches The Clown  uses balloons to create animals
for people's enjoyment. She will be on The Green for
Family Day on Saturday, June 10
WELLSBORO—The 16th Annual Family Day and Children’s Health Fair will kick off the 76th Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival. The event will be Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. outdoors on “The Green” in Wellsboro, rain or shine.
There will be activities for children of all ages, including games, refreshments and entertainment.

A bounce house, a 15-foot inflatable slide and slack lines to try will be on The Green.

Being given out free to participants will be a choice of one of the following: a rubber playground ball, a foam javelin or a hula hoop.

Nothing says fun like a clown and Stitches is one of the best. She will be giving hugs during the three-hour event and making people of all ages smile with the twist of a balloon. This clown enjoys having her picture taken with babies to senior citizens and encourages inquisitive youngsters to touch her nose, hair or arm when they ask, “Are you a real clown?”

At noon, the fun-loving Sadie Green Sales will perform. Timothy Walker and David Driskell will sing jug band songs and play a host of instruments from banjo, harmonica and flute to a penny whistle, a washboard, musical saw, washtub bass and jugs.

Wellsboro Pediatric Health Care Associates is sponsoring the giveaway of free bike helmets in sizes toddler to large while supplies last. A youth must be fitted for a helmet to get one.

Over 30 businesses and non-profit organizations are participating in Family Day. Some will involve youth in creative projects or activities. Youngsters can make musical instruments, paper craft flowers and butterflies, and flowers using their fingers and washable tempera paints and decorate a cloth bag or visor to take them home.

Others will have information about children’s health, safety and well being such as healthy expression through music, eye health, substance abuse prevention, pediatric concussions, hands-on CPR and first aid, bicycle safety, emotional wellness, wildfire, water and fire safety, and healthy snacks with samples. Tours will be given of a Wellsboro Firemen's ambulance.

Among the many free treasures at the booths will be hacky sacks, toothbrushes, canvas bags, bookmarks, ice/cold packs, bracelets, stickers, pens, pencils, stress balls, water safety goodie bags, pinwheels, flags and Walmart gift cards.

Hosting Family Day, which promotes wellness and healthy activities, are the Tioga County Partnership for Community Health, the Wellsboro Montessori Children’s Center, and the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce.

By resolution, the Tioga County Commissioners have designated June 10, as “Smoke Free Day on The Green.”
