Artful Adventures being offered at Hamlin Memorial Library

What artwork may have resulted if Vincent van Gogh had visited the PA Wilds? The artful adventures being offered at Hamlin Memorial Library will explore this and other questions during summer art camps. The library is offering three Art Camps for children and youth entering 2nd grade through high school this summer with projects planned by teaching artist Julie Mader with student interests and abilities in mind. The artwork and style of particular artists will be investigated while considering the beauty of the PA Wilds. Registration is now open for the camps which are limited in size.

KIDS ART CAMP for students entering 2nd and 3rd grade will be held June 5-8th 8:30-11am. This event will explore color and composition while students explore the artwork of Wassily Kandinsky and Henri Matisse.

TWEENZ ART CAMP for students entering grades 4, 5 & 6 will be held June 5-8th noon-2:30pm. Students will create bold and colorful artwork while investigating the styles and artwork of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso during afternoon sessions.
The KIDS and TWEENS Camps will have a combined public art show/reception on June 8th at 7pm.

TEEN ART CAMP for students entering 7th- 12th grade will be held July 17, 18 & 20th 9am-3pm. The longer sessions for the TEEN ART CAMP will allow the attending student artists an opportunity for an in-depth exploration as they create artwork responding to: “What if Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh visited the PA Wilds?” Student artwork created during camp will be celebrated with a show/reception On July 20th at 7pm.
The library will also hold Big Messy Art Camps for little messy people on July 3rd and July 10th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. These are geared to children ages 3-5 and their “handlers” and will include all sorts of sticky, gooey fun.

Details and the registration information for these art camps can be found by visiting or calling the Hamlin Memorial Library at 814-887-9262. These camps which are supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
