MANSFIELD—The Hamilton-Gibson Children and Youth Choirs composed of second through twelfth graders are giving their Spring Concert at 2:30 p.m. this Sunday, May 14, in Mansfield University's Steadman Theater. Each mother attending will receive a small gift because May 14 is Mother’s Day.

The theme of the concert is “First Person Singular” with all song titles including the name of a person. “Through music, the HG choirs are exploring the theme ‘Noteworthy Persons’ this year,” said Thomas Putnam. “It’s been fun to find songs with names, whether fictional like 'Old Dan Tucker,' in rounds, like 'Are You Sleeping Brother John,' historical like Harriet Tubman and William Tell, or Biblical like Jeremiah, Mary and Moses.” One of the showstoppers is “Light One Candle,” originally sung by Peter, Paul and Mary.

Putnam directs the Children's Concert Choir and the Young Men's Choir. Directing Choir, Too is Kersten Harnely, and the Young Women’s Choir is Melissa Netzband, a Mansfield University senior music student. Marian Miller is piano accompanist.

Sponsors are Dr. Richard and Kate Black.

Tickets at the door on May 14 will be $8 for adults and $4 for children and students. For more information, call 570-724-2079 or email
