The annual Kids' Fishing Derby sponsored by the Friends of Lyman Run, will be held on Saturday, May 13 at Lyman Run State Park.

Registration will begin at 9:00 am, however, the fishing for the derby will not begin until 10:00 am and will conclude at 1:00 pm.

A free lunch will be offered to all the kids from 11:30 - 12:30. Awarding of prizes will be a 1:00 pm. Adults may also have lunch but are asked to give a free will donation.

Prizes will be awarded for trout caught in the following categories...longest fish caught, first to limit (5 fish). Excluding the longest overall fish caught, there will also be prizes for the longest fish caught in the following age groups: 13 - 14 years old, 11- 12 years old, 9 - 10 years old, 7 - 8 years old, and longest fish for girls aged 6 and under and longest fish for boys aged 6 and under.

There will be only one prize per entrant.

Grand prize fish will be mounted for free by Endless Mountain Taxidermy, Westfield, PA.

All fishing derby rules will apply and will be handed out at the time of registration. Each fish should be measured after being caught in order to be eligible for the first- to- reach- limit prize.

A parent or guardian must accompany each child and parents are permitted to ASSIST their children, but not to fish for them. Make sure to bring fishing poles, bait, rain gear if needed, bugspray, and chairs to sit on. Some fishing poles are available to use if you don't have one.

Parents are reminded to place their chairs well back from the spillway pool in order to give the kids room to fish and are asked not to fish while seated in their chairs. Over 500 fish will be stocked for this event and the fishing area will be closed to all general fishing from Friday May 12 to Monday May 15 except for children who are allowed to fish in that area after the derby ends.

Fish will be in the spillway pool and downstream to the new foot bridge near the old ford area of the stream. Due to recent rains the ground might be quite wet so boots are recommended and everyone is reminded to stay off of the rocks on the sides/rear of the dam.

This program is free and open to anyone in the area and is especially appropriate for first time fisherfolk! WE hope you will come out and take part in this great and fun event...lots of fish to dogs and pizza and some great prizes...this is fun the whole family can enjoy..rain or shine!
