Richard G. Suppa, 82, of Pleasant Township in Warren, PA

Richard G. Suppa

Richard G. Suppa, 82, of Pleasant Township in Warren, PA died unexpectedly Thursday, May 11, 2017 at his home.

He was born June 2, 1934 in Warren, PA, to the late James and Joan Rensma Suppa, and had resided in Warren his entire life.

He was a 1954 graduate of Warren Area High School and attended Gannon University. He was employed with the former GTE Sylvania, retiring in 1992 after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church, Warren Moose Lodge 109, American Legion Post 135, Struthers Hose and the Eagles Club.
US Army Veteran

He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal in Okinawa, Japan from 1954 to 1956.

His four grandchildren brought him tremendous joy and pride. He was their biggest fan and admired them for their strong work ethics and commitments to their various pursuits. He rarely missed a local basketball, football or soccer game in which his grandson’s Evan and Griffin participated, and enthusiastically supported Whitney and Andrew’s artistic endeavors.

One of his favorite activities was attending the daily coffee club at Dave Vermilyea’s Suppa Shell Station on Warren’s west end. He greatly enjoyed the spirited discussions and valued the friendships.

He will be remembered as the bearer of fresh doughnuts, giver of big hugs, and provider of enduring advice, like his famous line: “Don’t do anything stupid.” He had an infectious deep belly chuckle that was impossible not to laugh along with. He was skilled in many trades and built the house he lived in. His wisdom was profound in its simplicity, and his generosity was infinite.

He is survived by his two children – Michael Suppa and his wife Lilly of Warren, Pa, Leslie Young and her husband Michael Young of Fairport, NY; one brother - James Suppa and his wife Patricia of Warren Pa.; four grandchildren – Whitney & Andrew Young of Fairport, NY and Evan & Griffin Suppa of Warren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Durelle Graziano Suppa.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Legion’s Legacy Scholarship Program via their website or directly by mail to The American Legion, Donation Processing, PO Box 361623, Indianapolis, IN 46236-1626. Donations should note the Legacy Scholarship Program.
