WELLSBORO WOMEN'S, MEN'S AND MUSICALES CONCERT IS SATURDAY, MAY 20

WELLSBORO—The Wellsboro Men’s, Wellsboro Women’s and the Wednesday Morning Musicales choruses are giving a joint concert Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Wellsboro at 36 Main Street.

The concert theme is “A Celebration in Song.” The three choruses will sing 19 different tunes incorporating musical styles from gospel to Broadway, patriotic, inspirational, pop songs and contemporary.

Opening the program will be the Wednesday Morning Musicales singing "Celebrate Music" by Joseph Martin; "Peace by Piece" by Robert Solomon; "Elijah Rock!" arranged by Roger Emerson; and "The Sound of Music (Choral Highlights)” by Hammerstein and Rodgers, arranged by John Leavitt. Director is Diana Frazier and Marian Miller is the piano accompanist.

The Wellsboro Men's Chorus, directed by Christina Simonis with piano accompaniment by Pat Davis, will perform "Make a Joyful Sound" based on Psalm 100; "Away from the Roll of the Sea," a Canadian song; "Tribute to the Everly Brothers”; "If I were a Rich Man" from “Fiddler on the Roof”; "Kiss the Girl" from the “Little Mermaid”; "Splish Splash" by Bobby Darin and "The Prayer" made famous by Celine Dion.

Under the direction of Diana Frazier with piano accompaniment by Judy Smithgall, the Wellsboro Women’s Chorus will sing "What Would I Do Without My Music" by Middlebrooks and Belland, arranged by Ed Lojeski; "I Dreamed A Dream" from “Les Misérables” by Schönberg, Boublil, Natel and Kretzmer, arranged by Lojeski; "Joyful, Joyful" by Warren, arranged by Roger Emerson; "Dancing Queen" from “Mamma Mia!” by Andersson, Anderson and Ulvaeus, arranged by Alan Billingsley; "You Don’t Own Me" by Madara and White, arranged by Jay Althouse; "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough" by Ashford and Simpson, arranged by Emerson; and "Medley from Sister Act" arranged by Mac Huff.

For the finale, the three choruses will join in singing "Hallelujah" from “Shrek” by Cohen and arranged by Emerson.

Admission to this concert is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets may be purchased from chorus members or purchased at the door.

“We welcome new members,” Frazier said. The Wellsboro Women’s Chorus rehearses Thursday nights at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts and the Wednesday Morning Musicales on Wednesday mornings at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center, both in Wellsboro.
