William B. Burkett, 86, of 761 N. Main Street, Limestone, PA, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017, peacefully, at his residence.

US National Guard
Born March 17, 1931 in Bradford, he was a son of Harry W. and Wilma E. (Meyers) Burkett. He attended Bradford schools. He served in the United States National Guard from 1950 to 1952.

On August 23, 1952, in Bradford he married Eva Lucille (Selner) Burkett, who died February 19, 1993.

Bill served in the United States National Guard from 1950 to 1952. He was employed at Owens Illionis, and later in the oil fields for Quaker State Oil Company, and retired from PGE.

Bill was a lifetime member of the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for 14 years. Bill enjoyed starting his day in the winter before going to work, plowing neighbors driveways. He loved his dog "Susie" and spending time building and flying R/C Airplanes. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra (Gordon) Sherk, of Bradford, and Barbara (Charles) Strauch, of Limestone,one sister Joyce Brooker of Bradenton, FL, two brothers Thomas Burkett of Duke Center and Gary Burkett of MO, 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister Donna Brandow, two brothers, Robert and Jack Burkett.

Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday May 16, 2017, from 11:00am to Noon in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main St., at Noon, funeral services will be held with Rev. Robert Beard, Pastor of the Limestone United Methodist Church, officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to McKean County SPCA, or a charity of the donor's choice.
