Careers on Wheels Coudersport Area Elementary School 2017

Pictured are the kindergarteners who participated along with parent/grandparent volunteers Joe Gerhart, Glenn Dunn, Anne Acker, Jen Buchsen, Courtney Anderson, Kathie Myers, Betsy Long, Amanda Risser and Penny Weinhold. Thank you all for volunteering to help supervise these students!
Careers on Wheels was held in the Coudersport Area Elementary School Bus Zone Friday, May 19th. It was a beautiful, sunny day as over 70 kindergarten students filed outside to learn from people who drive vehicles as part of their jobs.

Students and adults alike enjoyed a hayride from Kent Kenyon from Jersey Hill Farms and petted the newest addition to their Jersey cow herd. Mark Jackson taught the students about school bus safety and Mrs. Jeanne Mancia, retired teacher, gave out ice cream sandwiches from her freezer on wheels. Sgt. JR Page, explained how the HMMWV (commonly known as the Humvee) starts without a key and transports small groups of military troops and equipment. Penn DOT was represented by Robert Rossman who explained the many uses of his dump truck and the important job of maintaining our roads. Tadd Ostroski and Evan Rodriguez from the Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department demonstrated how the many parts of the fire truck work and discussed the need for safety when fighting fires. The students enjoyed sitting in PA State Trooper Coby Sebastian’s police car and hearing about Officer Jim Collins’ position as police officer with the Coudersport Police Department.

A big thank you from Mrs. Terri Shaffer, Elementary School Counselor to the presenters who took time out of their busy work schedules to teach our young children about their careers. One student in Mrs. Kosa’s kindergarten class said, “It was the best day ever!”

2017 marks twenty plus years that kindergarteners have enjoyed Careers on Wheels at Coudersport Elementary School.
