Pitt-Bradford's Brody Wood Named AMCC FAR Award Winner

BRADFORD, Pa. - Pitt-Bradford baseball player Brody Wood was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s 2017 Male Faculty Athletics Representatives Award recipient.

Wood and Medaille’s Amanda Ruszczyk were chosen from among 18 outstanding student-athletes named to the AMCC All-Academic team. Joining Wood on the team was Pitt-Bradford women’s basketball player Ali Rinfrette.

In addition to honors for Wood and Rinfrette, Drew Patla, Cassidy Lewis, and Tyler Hoops were named to the league’s spring sportsmanship team.

Wood is the third Panther to win the Faculty Athletics Representatives award and first since Matthew Lee in 2010. A senior biology major, Wood sports a 3.99 GPA and is a three-time AMCC academic all-conference selection. The Corry native is a two-time recipient of the Pitt-Bradford Award for Academic Excellence and has appeared on the Dean’s List all three years.

A first baseman on the diamond, Wood hit .295 with one home run and 29 RBIs in 39 games for Pitt-Bradford this season. His .982 fielding percentage led all Panthers.

Rinfrette, a nursing major, maintains a 3.80 GPA and is a three-time AMCC academic all-conference selection. She was named the 2016-17 Pitt-Bradford Female Scholar Athlete of the Year as a junior and received the Academic Excellence Award for the second straight year.

On the court, Rinfrette led the AMCC in several statistical categories en route to being named the conference’s Player of the Year.

Patla (men’s tennis), Lewis (softball) and Hoops (baseball) were three of 34 student-athletes tabbed to the spring sportsmanship teams.

All institution sport teams which compete for an AMCC championship select one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season, as voted on by their teammates.

The student-athlete selected must consistently demonstrate a high level of ethical conduct, respect and fair play in both practice and competition, whether on the sidelines or as an active competitor. The individual must also serve as a positive representative of school spirit when a spectator at other teams’ sporting events.
