PROMOTERS OF ARBORETUM SALE FOR SHEETZ EXPANSION APPARENTLY DON'T KNOW "NO MEANS NO"

sharing from my friend Shirlee Leete --- THIS IS NOT COOL.
Will this madness never end???!!! This has been going on Since Summer 2015. It needs to STOP. To the borough council folks... You made a great decision to save the arboretum and leave it alone. Stick with your decision. Don't let anyone BULLY you into changing it.
------------------------------------

ALERT FACEBOOK FRIENDS: It's come to my attention that there are kids going door to door and at Sheetz for you to sign that you do NOT oppose moving the arboretum so Sheetz can tear it down and enlarge their store- I know that the borough council recently voted to reject the proposal to have the arboretum moved- Now get this- THE KIDS ARE GETTING PAID $ 1 FOR EACH SIGNATURE THEY GET. I SMELL A RAT IN COUDERSPORT-IN FACT I SMELL TWO RATS- I WONDER IF THE PARENT OF THESE KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING? ONE KID EVEN BRAGGED THAT HE'D GOTTEN $28 IN AN HOUR. WISH I WASN'T HOUSE BOUND WITH A BROKEN BACK SO I'M ASKING ALL MY FRIENDS TO SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO

Great headline. The petition urging borough council to not sell or alter the arboretum had 850 names and not one of them was collected for a bounty. We could have gotten more names but figured 850 were enough. How many hundred people are urging the borough council to sell out?

Anonymous said...

I thought the decision to NOT sell to Majot was already made. Why can't people just leave things as they are. As for those children soliciting names in front of Sheets store - makes one wonder what is up with them. The children told who was paying them - that's another thing that makes me wonder!

Just some facts.
The borough owns the property and can do what it wants with the property. The arboretum committee does not own the land or lease the land.
The borough pays for everything the arboretum uses (electric, insurance, trash removal, lawn mowing, and storing property in the winter).
The arboretum committee was offered land and refused to relocate.
The area in question for sell is 1/3 of an acre not the entire land the arboretum uses and has nothing to do with the wall of honor.
I saw an offer of $350,000 for that 1/3 of an acre, which is $1,060,606.00/ acre.
I drive by abandoned Sheetz in Port everyday and it is an ugly eye sore.
Coudersport will have two empty lots on that corner of route 6 and I don't care how beautiful the arboretum is 2 abandon lots is all you will remember.
Sheetz could move out of the Borough reducing jobs and taxable income.

Why on Earth would the Borough not sell? Are we that well off?
The borough should do whatever it takes to promote business in town.

The sad truth is eventually the Borough taxpayers will have to take care of rotting caboose, a rotting railcar and property that is not maintained by the elderly people on the arboretum committee.

Not a big fan of petitions but the numbers are impressive. A question to consider is what would motivate a person to take a stand on this? Most people who would favor selling out are motivated by personal greed. So I would give less weight to a signature on a petition to sell our soul than a petition to save the arboretum the way it is. Keep your eyes open when it comes to greed because two more houses next to the mausoleum just got sold to ...guess who....

Anonymous said...

Sheetz brings more money in than the stupid arboretum!! Get real think taxes!

Anonymous said...

How many people does Sheetz hire and pay? How many people does the arboretum hire and pay?? Think people!! I could care less about either but you all need to think about employment and money being brought into and spent in town.

Anonymous said...

Sure run another business out of town look at the empty store fronts

Anonymous said...

I'm wondering what two houses are next to the mauseleoum?! there aren't any houses next to that building!

Anonymous said...

Wow folks, it's no big deal, You need the businesses, what is 1/3 of property, for goodness sakes, sell it, I don't care if it is Major or the Pres of the US, you need jobs in Coudersport, it's no big deal......as already said, the abertorium is an expense, jobs are needed, jobs will keep people in the area, think about it, use common sense!

Anonymous said...

512 they are behind it next to parking lot. Actually that is the entrance off South West Street. As for elderly people on the arboretum committee the truth is that no younger ones step up. And the idea of supporting jobs us at all costs is downright irresponsible. Some people here are so shortsighted.

one man is buying up everything in coudersport people keeping playing into his hands

Anonymous said...

Send the kids to my house, I'll sign. Put the arboretum next to the new pool. At least people will know where it's at.

Anonymous said...

Post 8.23, don't know much about Coudersport politics. Does anyone know who is buying up land?

Anonymous said...

What on earth does Shirley Lette have power over this matter, I don't understand!

Anonymous said...

Tom Majot is where he's at financially b/c he's been a very hard worker all his life, you begrudge & condemn someone b/c he's excelled for being a hard worker ???? As said put the Abertorium next to the town pool where people can see it & as said, they'll know where it's at!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Anonymous said...

sheetz has very little parking noted but the main problem is traffic in and out they need to move totally where they have more room and les danger getting in and out i avoid it d/t to getting in and out with traffic in all directions i have seen big rigs parked almost in the road no they really do need to move to a safer and less danger in and out

Anonymous said...

Why not rip up the asphalt at the Gunzberger building where the old elementary school playground was and put the arboretum there?

Anonymous said...

What a joke, fake news, selfish interests. Why hasn't Shirlee or Msss. Bowers mentioned that councilman Neefe works for Todd brown and Jason Holmberg, Potter Lands that led the discussion against expansion so the "Sheetz deal " could enrich their own interests? (conflict of interest and ethics violation?)or that the solicitor couldn't advise the borough council on the issue because he too is in bed with the same Todd Brown and Jason Holmberg developers for representation. Sheetz WILL eventually expand, if its at another location the current store will be leased and sit vacant just as it does in Port Allegany, a blemish in the community, a hangout for drug use, another vacant store in our town. Did these kids pay for signatures? As long as we say ALLEGEDLY we can print anything. Allegedly some people don't want anything in Coudersport.

when all has been said and done....there is a lot more said than done

Anonymous said...

Sheetz has better subs than The Arboretum so not sure why this is even up for debate.

Anonymous said...

agree 8:44, I'm told the Arboretum doesn't even include the caboose? Can someone please confirm? Is all this fight over just the bushes, flowers, benches and trees? Cant they just be moved and Sheetz expanded? I understand don't they don't even own the property they are on, So what's the question? Wasn't the Wagner guy arrested by Sheetz for urinating on their floor in public, Is the Boro taking advice from him? No wonder he opposes it.

Anonymous said...

Get to the bottom of it Shirley Davenport Leete, expose those councilman and madam mayor of their greed and conflicts of interest, and backroom shady deals to make money for themselves. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Turn down $350,000 for a third of an acre? That's just plain stupid. "Stupid is as stupid does"...Forrest Gump

Anonymous said...

828 don't forget one of councilmen was fired from Sheetz

Anonymous said...

No means NO is the headline? I understood the motion made at the Borough meeting was to "DO NOTHING" at this time. I fail to see how doing nothing is a mandate for or against anything. Apathy is hardly a demonstration of will, more the lack of it...The majority of the downtown is vacant, thankfully Mr.Buchsen and Mr.Majot continue to press forward, albeit with constant opposition, good for them. Council should take a lesson from these men, a vocal minority's expressed opposition is hardly the basis for sound reasoning on behalf of the Borough. Help a solid local business expand? FOR GOODNESS SAKES WAKE UP!! Sell the parcel, expand the business, move the garden to another spot.

Anonymous said...

9:33 was it one in favor of Sheetz expanding? Unlikely. Shirlee was right you can smell rats all through this opposition!! People with personal grudges leading the opposition at the expense of OUR community! Somebody get me a Snickers bar!!

Anonymous said...

Ok back up, Shirley are you house bound with a broken back??? Sorry didn't know, Are the signatures of towns people or people passing tho town?? Why not buy the Quaker state garage? He doesn't show any thing, give him that money and he'd sell, I'm sure.

Anonymous said...

Can't go to the service center because Todd Brown and Jason Holmberg dug out of old Adelphia archives an environmental test on Donnies' site that tied him up and bled him dry using DEP and taxpayers money to line their own pocket while their employee Gene Neefe bullies council to do nothing so they stay in the game, sickening.

"Save the Whales"...its a better cause

So if quaker station is contaminated go in dig it all out lay down new an start over, look at all the other places were gas station were and now we have the tasmahall the land across from jail the gleason building, the goodwill, firehall, they dug all that out to build!!!!!!! why not quaker state???

One thing is clear to me on this string. One or two people who have a dog in the race are working really hard to force this bad idea down the borough council's throat and make it look like there is this groundswell of support for destroying the park. The greed and manipulation are so obvious that it has become sickening. It will be interesting to analyze the 850 or more names on the petition (of however many they actually buy with that bounty) urging the council to sell off yet another piece of our town that has any class so the greedy handful and their corporate pals can screw us over. You guys are really classy. Not.

Anonymous said...

I heard they got over 1200 signatures in favor of expanding Sheetz, can someone tell me why a petition for or against this has anything to do with the Borough Council making a decision? ARE PETITIONS REQUIRED TO MAKE EVERY BORO DECISION?

Coudersport retail is on life support, someone better wake up and realize we are only a half step behind the deterioration Port faces.

John A.Wright said...

The Coudersport Arboretum committee requested my attendance at one of their regular meetings and asked my input on possible site alternatives as well as my opinion of the current location. I expressed support for the work done, gave my opinion as to the location and future of the corridor and expressed a willingness to offer alternatives. We continue to offer our assistance to the committee as well as to others who have inquired. It is by definition part of what our agency is supposed to do. I am sure the Borough is capable of resolving these issues and all of its politics. If ANYONE has question about my role or position is this mater feel free to contact me at 814-274-7031 8 AM-4 PM, Monday through Friday or after hours on my cell 814-598-2513, I am happy to discuss it with You. Because of politics, all Potter County towns are in Trouble! Again those who just have to run things end up getting us in a critical situation and then want to hand the problems off to the taxpayer. The same people in the same towns bitch because others don't get involved in their shenanigans, blame the ones who don't come to their meetings, even if we were aware of their meetings, why bother they already have there polluted opinions and blame the rest for the outcome. I'm still confused everyone mentions Shirley Leete and her powers that be, I am missing something here.

Somewhat sad that we're talking about a petition being needed to support a move where an investment is being made that would result in retail growth and potentially a few additional jobs in the community. Not sure what the delay is, but my question to the council would be why isn't this us a done deal all ready? The Arboretum is wonderful area and it certainly enhances the downtown area, but it generates no money and could be relocated to numerous other locations where it could be both expanded and used as more of centerpiece than it is now. Wake up people. You're being presented with an opportunity that doesn't happen often anymore in small-town USA and your letting it slip away because you hate the idea that one of your neighbors might actually make a buck or two in the process.

I am all for nature and a nice park, but Sheetz is so crowded and dangerous, people parking in spots that are not spot because there is no room. People act like we live in the city and there are no other parks, there is Mitchall Park, Carp, the town square right next to the court house, drive about 45 minutes and there is the Pa Grand Canyon and we live in the country.

Anonymous said...

If John Wright can address one question on here it will clear the air about a rumor that is taking off like wildfires and should be put to bed or verified for the good of everyone concerned. Were you involved in a petition drive to ask the boro commission to sell the arboretum section to Sheetz? The rumors are getting out of hand and you can nip that in the butt right here.

Congratulations to the one or two vested interests who have flooded this blog with contrived comments posted to create the myth that there is a groundswell of support for selling our park to let the big corporation sell beer (killing our local distributors who have served us well) and more greasy, fattening food (which would hurt our local restaurants). If we are not careful we will lose our character and our heritage and become just another place where the cookie cutter stores of the corporations suck money from the community and add it to their corporate coffers far away. Don't need no stinkin' community character. Just sell out.

Not to mention, a lot of people have gardens in their own back yard. It's not the only place to see a few flowers and some shrubbery. After all, Potter County is "God's Country," people! The arboretum looks great, but the town can come together and move it to a better, more central location, make it even better in a more noticeable spot. It can be done. Stop treating this little chunk of land as if it's sacred burial ground. It's not a friggin' cemetery.

Anonymous said...

I would wager to bet that the majority of people in potter County have yards larger than the Arboretum. Not to mention the thousands of acres of state forest, parkland etc.

If the Boro wants to gain anything from this they should propose no beer sales at the site in exchange for the sale. This makes the in and out at Sheetz much safer and gives a bit of shelter to the other local businesses that do sell take out. At least we can look after some of our own.

They can take it or not. They are not the only convenience store that wants a presence here.

And as for Shirley, yes she rocks and rules! Any questions?

Print it Jim.

Ok, post 6.50, got ya on the power that be, rocks and rules tells much more, thanks for the information, I get ya loud and clear, big rulers, bigger mouths says it all over Potter County! Just different names in different towns, all with the attitude that they rule all. It is so funny, seems that the older some get, the more they want to rule. We needed a little humor and sarcasm just to breath after the posts on this subject. Calm down a little, anger just gives Manyou just what they are looking For! Maybe smile and get over it!
