Proposed Construction of Shale Gas Drilling Wastewater Treatment Plant on Coudersport's Western Border

Good afternoon,

It has come to the attention of some Coudersport residents that there is a proposal for a fracking wastewater treatment plant on Coudersport's wester border on the table, and scheduled for discussion tomorrow. There does not seem to be widespread awareness of this proposal, therefore I am sending this information on behalf of Laurie Barr and the group to see if you would mind posting it to Solomon's Word to help raise awareness.

Thank you.
Best regards,
Georgina Hricak

"A company is proposing construction of shale gas drilling wastewater treatment plant on Coudersport’s western border." according to the Shale Gas Roundup newsletter. which states “Discussions are being held between members of the Coudersport Area Municipal Authority and two businesses, Epiphany Environmental and JKLM Energy.”

Newsletter link: http://www.pottercountypa.net/post/_docs/2016_RoundupDecember.pdf

According to the Pennsylvania Department of State (online database), the fledgling company, “Epiphany Water Systems” is owned by Thomas Joseph and began operating in Dec. 2015. However their own website, youtube videos & other sources indicate the company has been operating at least as far back as 2012 when Consol Energy invested $500,000 in Epiphany.

State Department link: https://www.corporations.pa.gov/search/corpsearch

A video on youtube posted by Tom Joseph explains Epiphany's method of wastewater treatment which utilizes solar power, "distillation" and "mist evaporation." Video link: https://youtu.be/F1duF1M589Y?t=1m18s

Someone told to me the decision whether or not to lease land next to the sewage treatment facility (near the Coudersport Gospel Tabernacle Church) to Epiphany Water Solutions is “in the hands of the Coudersport Area Municipal Authority (CAMA).”

According to The Endeavor News published back in November of 2016 "Discussions between members of the Coudersport Area Municipal Authority and two businesses, Epiphany Environmental and JKLM Energy, date back at "least five months. Few details have been made public."

Nearly a year after discussions began, area residents continue to be left in the dark.

It's my guess that among the reasons "few details have been made public." is Epiphany's process may involve wastewater storage, distillation and evaporation of JKLM's Hydro-fracturing wastewater at a facility which is less than a mile upwind of the Coudersport Elementary School. We know this waste may include volatile organic compounds which are known carcinogens as well as soluble and insoluble radioactive compounds. Will the facility take any steps to isolate this prior to or during any evaporation and distillation processes?

It's my hope CAMA, Epiphany and JKLM will hold public informational meeting to clue-in the rest of us, with details of their wastewater treatment plant plans. And to allow residents a reasonable amount of time to review their plans, submit comments and have any environmental, health and safety related concerns raised and addressed before the deal is sealed.

I made a couple phone calls to try to learn more about this and when this could be decided and all I was able to come up with is this; a decision may be made soon.

The next Coudersport Area Municipal Authority meeting is scheduled for Monday June 26 at 6:30pm at the Sewer Plant on Toles Hollow Rd.

Epiphany Water Systems is the sister company is Epiphany Labs:

And "Someone told ME" this entire article is hyped-up so much and misleading it borders on total lies.
Fake news.

As long as it's operational after September 23, 2017. Once GOD's children have been taken to heaven and the non-believers are left behind to deal with this mess, I don't care.

The well-being of the community will not matter. It is all about money. Good luck Coudersport!! One more place I won't have to go to.

I think no matter what, some will not be happy. People dont want wastewater injected, neither do I. People dont want drilling. Understood. This appears to be a better suggestion, maybe? If it is a treatment facility, I think that might be a better solution than frack ponds that are seen in Tioga County since it would be regulated. As far as the school concern, one has to wonder if the impact of the PCE contamination that originated at PennDOT is a concern. Everyone who had contaminated wells was required to hook up to the boro water system, and then pay a wonderful water bill. The school and playground have to be impacted by PCE as well, but as soon as the source was identified, everything was hushed up. It seems like a facility would be a better solution, and getting away from fossil fuel will come eventually. I would be more concerned with all of the abandoned oil wells that are allowed to ooze all over McKean County. Just seems like this might be a step in the right direction, depending on what is entailed. Hopefully people will attend meetings to become informed. I am more saddened that our Arboratem is going to be thrown away for a convenience store!

Poster 5:59 if you have read the Bible it said that God will come like a theif in the night NO one will know when he will come so don't count on September 23

Some people can pretty much be counted on to sound alarm bells about the big bad energy company and then, maybe, check their facts later. A handful of them have taken the alarmist rhetoric to the extreme because their livelihood and their reason for being (at least for now) is tied to it. What Epiphany is proposing is actually being applauded by reputable environmental advocates. Don't let a little reality get in the way of your shtick....This suggestion that radioactivity is going to invade the school from the small water recycling plant is really a stretch. If you want a real example of ignorance and exposing our kids to poison, ask the school and the borough about their liberal use of ChemLawn (now calling themselves TruGreen)on playing fields and check into what those toxins can do to people and even pets.

What is up with 5:59? Weird.....

I think coudersport needs some kind of treatment plant, for mental treatments lol

Volatile Organic Compounds which are known carcinogens, even in small amounts, being vented into the air upwind from the elementary school and several hundred Coudersport residents is just a sign of progress I guess.

Don't like it, move?

How neighborly of y'all.....

Any body want to discuss the proximity of this plant to the Allegheny River.Does this facility use or discharge water?

Oh please! Take your fake news and mail it to the WH where treason is acceptable. Poisoning innocent children with VOC's, endocrine disrupters, and god only knows what other toxic substances ought to be illegal. It is beyond reason and when someone speaks out trying to alert parents you call it "fake news"...really?

Anonymous said...

Oh my... "reputable environmental advocates"?!? Can you please be way more specific so this can be fact checked? I'm just dying to hear/read about the basis this "reputable environmental advocates" is using to green light exposing children to toxicity! Please hurry!

Fake News 100%

Lol is right! Prison is too good for the gassholes that poured those chemicals down an unlined hole to retrieve a drill bit and contaminated an aquifer. The cell next to them ought to be reserved for the DEP personel who continue to issue permits to JKLM to drill despite this collossial blunder (way stronger words come mind) and Township personal for not running JKLM out of the county. Now they want to mist VOC's, endocrine disruptors, and whatever other toxic substances are found into the air that not only nearby residents but the inhabitants of the elementary school, defenseless children, will be exposed to. Thanks for the laugh in an otherwise horrifying scenario. Please attend the meetings!

This is an experimental facility designed to purify drinking water in remote villages in third world countries. They plan on hearing up the waste. Their video explains their effluent may be discharged or reused and claims it will be cleaner than rain. Im wondering if it will be more radioactive than rain too. I guess we'll just have to wait and ask the town people what boiled crack waste fluid smells like.

Let's get some people from Dunkards Creek in the discussion, I'm quite sure any input would be very valuable!

Anonymous said...

Well for starters on the smell just review the New Castle News since begfore last summer. It is all over the newspaper that the town smelled like "cat pee"

It's really funny that all of you hypocrites have a problem with this proposal because of the contamination and smell, but you have allowed the operation of Pure Carbon AKA Morgan Advanced Materials for decades. Do you have a problem with contaminated water? Go take a quick dip in the Pure Carbon pond......it isn't sealed off from the water table and is a couple hundred yards away from Mill Creek that feeds into the Allegheny River. Has anyone ever mentioned testing that water? How about a quick drive down the road......mmmmm...someone is cooking hot dogs.....NOPE. Sorry! ..it's the crap spewing out of the Pure Carbon stacks......yummy. Like I said....you're all hypocrites.....

No, 6:44pm, it's just that a once apathetic populace is finally waking up.

And thanks for the tip on that pond.

Now, to get people to stop freaking burning plastic in town.

I love to burn plastic, especially milk jugs. I like the way those melting, burning drops go "zipppp...Zzzzipppp...Zzippp. as they drop to the earth on fire.

Yes, 8:21, some people are just screw your neighbor type assholes.
