Barbara A. Tanner, 76, of Newell Creek Rd., Eldred, PA, passed away Monday (July 10, 2017) in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.

Born Feb. 22, 1941, in Coleville, PA, she was a daughter of Marion and Frances Confer Ludwig. On Nov. 12, 1960, in Smethport, she married Norman E. Tanner, Sr., who survives. They were married 56 years.

Barbara was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Smethport High School, class of 1959. 

Mrs. Tanner was co-owner and co-worker with the Tanner family farm.

She loved farming, gardening, feeding hummingbirds and her animals. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband. She was a former member of the Port Allegany Dairy COOP.

Surviving are three sons, Norman E. Tanner, Jr. of Eldred, Randy A. (Denise) Tanner of Rew, PA, William D. Tanner of Carisle, PA; three daughters, Cindy A. Austin and Sandra K. (Frank) Mason both of Eldred, and Amanda C. (David) Skroback of Portville, NY; 6 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; a brother James (Susan) Ludwig of Bradford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Raymond Ludwig, and a sister, Jean Fox.

Friends will received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (July 14, 2017) with Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.

Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
