Coudy Library To Present Appalachian Trail Speaker Aug. 12

Last fall, Lauralee Bliss – “Blissful” – a Shenandoah National Park ridgerunner who has twice hiked the entire Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia, presented a well-received program on her adventures along with hiking advice at the Coudersport Public Library. She’ll return to the Library on Saturday, August 12, to present a children’s hiking program at 11:00 a.m., and an adult program at 1:00 p.m.

“An Appalachian Trail Adventure for Kids” will explore many aspects of the trail, from bears to snakes, plants, trees, cool views and funny hiking photos, cooking using a tiny stove and pot, sleeping in the woods and more. Children will create their own “trail name” through drawing and words to earn a carabiner to hook on their day pack or belt loop. This program is an opportunity for children to learn how to interact with nature in a fun and safe manner.

At 1:00 p.m., Bliss will speak to teens and adults about the 220-mile Pennsylvania segment of the Appalachian Trail, covering the area from Pen Mar Park to Delaware Water Gap. Bliss will discuss her experiences on the trail and how to safely enjoy it in all seasons.

All are invited to attend these free programs. Call the library at 274-9382 for more information.
