Driver Arrested for DUI in Genesee, Pa

No sympathies here! Glad he didn't hit an innocent victim passing through that stop sign while selfishly driving while UNDER THE INFLUENCE!! As someone posted here previously, the state promotes and allows alcohol so they can recoup money spent on the use and abuse and the after effects of alcohol. Not down playing the opioid "crisis" but over 80k people die annually, and have for years, due to alcohol related illnesses, alcohol OD, crashes, etc. WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE? For every $1 coming in from alcohol revenue, $8 is spent dealing with the social ills from said alcohol abuse. Look up the lifetime costs to care for a single child with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). Both mental and physical help is needed with FAS. Our school systems (our taxes) spend extra money to help children coming from homes where alcohol is abused. Alcohol is more important to some parents than working with their children on their schoolwork, reading books to them, or even spending quality time with them. Those children then grow up, become clones of their parents, and the cycle continues.
But, the government doesn't push back on the alcohol industry because they bring in revenue from sales taxes and fines. Even though they, (the government) spends 8X more $ dealing with the effects of alcohol than the tax and revenue that they bring in, they employ a large umber of people in the social programs dealing with alcohol use and abuse. I guess that's what counts? The employment aspect of creating jobs? Don't think of the human toll that alcohol takes.
Spend $8 in costs for every $1 in revenue? Doesn't make much economic sense. Could a private business do that and survive? The government doesn't care, they have an endless revenue stream from we the citizens, as long as we continue to pay up each week, on April 15th, and of course the tax from alcohol sales pays a whopping 12% of these costs.
Yet this same government denies medical marijuana, which is PROVEN to have medicinal value to children with chronic seizures, or to cancer patients, glaucoma patients and many, many more proven benefits. Imagine being a parent and being denied an oil that would change your child's quality of life and you're told no! States that have legalized recreational use of marijuana have seen a 25% decrease in DUI but people still push back against it. What is wrong here? Why legalize a drug (alcohol) that has far worse consequences than another (marijuana)? Before you get on here and spout off about dopers and druggies, marijuana leads to heroin, etc. Do some REAL RESEARCH of BOTH substances and the social ills and health consequences of each. Does one beer lead you to whiskey addiction and you become an alcoholic? Of course not, no more than recreational marijuana leads you to be a drug abuser.
