HG WOMEN'S PROJECT SELECTS FIVE PLAYS FOR PRODUCTION IN OCTOBER

Clare Marie Ritter of the Hamilton-Gibson Women's Project has announced the names of the short plays selected by a panel of readers for the What She Wrote Production being presented in October.

The plays and their authors are: “The Fun House” authored by Patricia Brown Davis, “The Exchange” by Rachel Smith, “My Wife” by Laura Napier, “Leaving Ben in Ireland” by Carol Cacchione and “Man VS Nature” by Lilace Guignard.

Each play is between 10 to 15 minutes in length, original, unpublished and not previously produced. The type or style of play was the author’s choice. To be accepted, plays had to be appropriate for a venue that could handle a minimal set, basic lighting and sound effects.

The women's project was started in 2016 to provide opportunities for women in community theatre. This year, through a free “What She Wrote” Playwriting Seminar in February and four free workshops in March and April, all facilitated by Ritter, women were given the chance to learn how to write a script for a short play and submit it for consideration for production in October.

Auditions for roles in each of the five plays will be in the Warehouse Theatre at 3 Central Avenue in Wellsboro on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 17 and 18 at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19 at 9 a.m. and Sunday, Aug. 20 at 1 p.m.

Performances will be given Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27, 28 and 29 in the Warehouse Theatre.

Women are also needed to help with all aspects of the production, including sound, lights, set design and construction, wardrobe/costumes, etc. Those interested or who have questions are invited to email Ritter at muirnun@gmail.com.

Co-sponsors of "What She Wrote" are Maureen and Terry Babb, Keith and Hilma Cooper, Dunkin' Donuts of Wellsboro and Benedict's Bus Service.
