Olean High students receive CRCF memorial scholarships

Hannah Stayer
OLEAN, N.Y., July 28, 2017— Five Olean High School graduates recently received Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation-managed scholarships established in memory of former local residents.

Hannah Stayer and Luciano Rogers received the Tyler Bihler Memorial Scholarship.

Nathan Bradley
The Tyler Bihler Memorial Scholarship, $1,000, is given to one male and one female Olean High School student who have maintained a grade percentage over 80 and demonstrated good character and citizenship attending a two- or four-year college. Tyler Bihler’s family established the scholarship in Tyler’s memory.
Dylan Spencer

Stayer will attend Binghamton University to study psychology. Rogers will pursue an accounting degree at St. Bonaventure University.

Stayer also received the JoAnn Wehmeyer English Scholarship.

The JoAnn Wehmeyer scholarship, established by a group of Olean High alumni in memory of Mrs. Wehmeyer who taught English at Olean High School for 42 years, is a $1,000 award to a graduating senior recommended by the Olean English faculty who has excellent writing skills and the ability to make a difference.

Anna Elisabeth Ross
Rogers also received the Michele Krahe Peace Olean High School Scholarship.

Established in Ms. Krahe Peace’s memory by her parents, David and Irene Krahe of Olean, this $500 scholarship is given to an Olean High senior with preference for a student pursuing an accounting or business degree.

Anna-Elisabeth Ross, Nathan Bradley and Dylan Spencer received the Signe, Svenborg, Agnes and Selma Johnson Scholarship.

Luciano Rogers
Established through the trust of Signe H. Johnson, a former Portville and Olean high school teacher, this scholarship is given to Olean High School seniors with preference given to students who have strong educational/career goals or who plan to pursue a degree in teaching. The scholarship is named for Signe Johnson and her sisters, Svenborg, Agnes and Selma, all of whom were Olean High School teachers.

Ross will attend Wingate University to study biology. Bradley will study economics at the University of Albany. Spencer will be majoring in accounting at St. Bonaventure University.

Donations can be made to any of these scholarship funds at 301 North Union Street, Suite 203 or online at cattfoundation.org.
