Appalachian Trail Speaker Saturday At Library

Coudersport Public Library will host children's and adult programs on Saturday, August 12, featuring Appalachian Trail speaker Lauralee Bliss – “Blissful” – a Shenandoah National Park ridgerunner who has twice hiked the entire Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia and who presented a well-received program on her experiences last fall at the Library.

At 11:00 a.m., Bliss will present “An Appalachian Trail Adventure for Kids”, exploring many aspects of the trail, from animals and plants to funny photos, cooking and sleeping outdoors.Participants will create their own “trail name” through drawing and words to earn a carabiner to hook on their day pack or belt loop. This program is an opportunity for elementary age children to learn how to interact with nature in a fun and safe manner.

At 1:00 p.m., Bliss will speak to teens and adults about the 220-mile Pennsylvania segment of the Appalachian Trail, covering the area from Pen Mar Park to Delaware Water Gap. Bliss will discuss her experiences on the trail and how to safely enjoy it in all seasons.

All are invited to attend these free programs. Call the library at 274-9382 for more information.
