On Saturday, Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., From My Shelf Books & Gifts at 7 East Avenue in Wellsboro is hosting poet Daril Bentley of Elmira, New York. He will autograph copies of his most recent collection of poetry titled "The Vinedressers and Other Poems," published on Aug. 3, 2016 as well as "The Long Lake and Other Poems" published on Sept. 7, 2006, a finalist in the 2007 New Mexico Book Award for Poetry.
"The Vinedressers" is described by one reviewer "as a four-part collection of poetry with the cohesive effect of a well-structured novel" that "explores the timeless via timely themes." Bentley's "intellectually and esthetically arresting poems include social commentary, the philosophical, the introspective, the observational, and the universal. With its singular artistic approach and voice developed of an eclectic and unconventional mind, this is a compassionate book that cares deeply about the fate of human beings across cultural and social strata and across national and international borders."

A Finger Lakes native and graduate of Binghamton University, Bentley is a career writer and editor and founder of Bentley Editorial Services. He has been writing and publishing for 40 years. Currently, he is finishing "All My Bones: Poems 1977-2017," which includes 112 of his poems written during those 40 years. He plans to have it published before the end of 2017.

In editorial roles that include serving as production editor for poetry with HarperCollins Publishers, Bentley has edited numerous nationally and internationally well-known poets, among them five United States Poets Laureate.

The author of 'The Bentley Guide to Poets & Poetry in English" and ten books of poetry, Bentley is active in community outreach involving poetry events. He was a semifinalist in the Yale Series of Younger Poets; a finalist in the New Mexico Book Award for Poetry, earned an honorable mention in the Writer’s Digest International Book Award for Poetry; a commendation in the Brittingham Prize in Poetry; a finalist in the Scottish International Open Poetry Competition; a nominee in the Colorado Independent Publishers Award for Poetry, and a guest reader for the Robert Burns Club in Irvine, Scotland.

"Ron Butler, Mr. Bentley's cousin, recommended we bring him to Wellsboro," said Bookstore Manager Kasey Coolidge. "Mr. Bentley is a contemporary American poet who uses a lot of nature metaphors. His poems are often compared with those written by Robert Frost, Mary Oliver, Wallace Stevens and William Carlos Williams."
