Clarification on the Status of Twin Lakes Campground

via Chuck Abraham

Warren, Pa.(August 4, 2017) – The Allegheny National Forest has been receiving a number of inquiries regarding the permanent closure of Twin Lakes Campground, which is erroneously being spread throughout the public.

A decision was made to shut down the trailer dump station due to a failure in the lift station that carries waste to the treatment plant.

This led to an adjustment in the 2017 operating season for the campground, not a permanent closure. The original operating season was scheduled to end on October 15, 2017. The season will now end on September 5, 2017, after which an assessment of the water and waste-water systems will take place.

According to Marienville District Ranger Rob Fallon, “There are no current plans to close Twin Lakes to camping. A cost and use assessment will determine the compliance needs and potential costs for the water and waste-water system. I want to assure the public that they will be fully involved in any proposals for non-emergency status changes to Twin Lakes Campground.” Interested parties may contact Marienville District Ranger Rob Fallon at rfallon@fs.fed.us or 814-927-5799 with questions or concerns."

Twin lakes is the best camping, fishing, swimming area in the National Forest. We have been going there since the 1960's. I wish the government would put a few of my tax dollars into fixing it up. I've worked all my life and wouldn't mind seeing a little of my money going to something that would benefit my family and other hard working people. We look foreword to our vacation and have earned it, unlike all the bums that my tax dollars support.
The company that takes care of the campground and maintains it does a great job considering the rundown outdated facilities they have to work with, The ANF needs to start thinking about the working citizens they are supposed to serve and do a little for us.
