VERLON THOMPSON CONCERT IS WEDNESDAY, AUG. 16 AT THE DEANE CENTER

Verlon Thompson, a Nashville music scene fixture, will perform at the Deane Center Coolidge Theatre at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m.
His concert will give the audience a preview of the talented musicians that will grace the outdoor stage at the Stony Fork Creek Campground two days later during Hickory Fest being held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18, 19 and 20.

For his first set of the evening, Thompson, an acoustic guitar player, singer and Grammy-nominated songwriter, will perform "Find Your Angel," the Civil War operetta he wrote with Sue Cunningham and Frank Serio. It is the "fiction based on fact" story of Lorena, a privileged southern belle from Vicksburg, Mississippi whose perfect life collides with the Civil War. Cunningham and Thompson gave their first performance of "Find Your Angel" at the Deane Center in Wellsboro in August of 2013. Cunningham passed away in September of 2015. Thompson is performing it in her honor.

For his second set, he will play and sing highlights from his satchel full of great songs.. He has written music for balladeers like Kenny Rogers and Anne Murray; for bluegrassers like Del McCoury; and for country boys like Dierks Bentley and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

This is a BYOB event. Audience members are welcome to bring snacks and beverages and can reserve tables at no extra charge. Tickets are $15. For tickets and to reserve a table, call 570-724-6220. For more information, visit www.hickoryfest.com.
