Coudersport Man Dies, Smethport Man Seriously Injured In Route 6 Crash Near Coudersport

A Coudersport man died and a Smethport man is listed in fair condition today after their vehicles came together head-on on the Cemetery Curve on Route 6, just West of Coudersport, last evening.

Steven Dilick, 54, of Coudersport died as a result of the crash.

Michael Kellar, 52, of Smethport is hospitalized in fair condition today according to troopers.

The Monday evening crash occurred at 6:10 PM. Troopers say, "After a thorough investigation, the crash evidence indicated that Dilick's 2003 dark blue Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling eastbound on Route 6 while Kellar's Gray 1989 Cadillac DeVille was westbound."

"Dilick failed to properly negotiate a right hand curve, causing his Jeep to travel into the westbound lane, striking Kellar's Cadillac head-on."

Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by Coudersport Fire Department personnel.

Coudersport EMS performed life-saving measures while transporting to Cole Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

With assistance from Coudersport Fire Department, Pennsylvania State Police were able to safely perform a thorough investigation for several hours. PSP Coudersport was assisted at the scene by PSP Forensics Unit and the PSP Collision Analyst Reconstruction Unit (CARS).

Steven Dilick died shortly after the reconstruction was completed, due to his injuries in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

What needs to be done to that curve is people need to follow the signs and slow down! I drive that curve a lot and I am constantly having somebody on the rear of my vehicle because I'm following the signs and going slow and they're in a hurry to go nowhere.
