Hinsdale, NY, Man To Go To Trial

Criminal charges against Hinsdale man sent to trial

A New York State man who allegedly stole a knife at the scene of a fatal crash north of the city will go to trial on related charges after the man waived a preliminary hearing.

Dale Alan Buehlmann, 49, of Hinsdale, allegedly was ‘‘kicking and sorting items on the roadway’’ at the accident scene on Route 15 near Route 184 on Aug. 13, according to state police.

The crash claimed the life of Gerard B. Viehmeyer, 36, of Hawthorne, N.J. A 9-year-old boy was injured, police said.

Buehlmann allegedly was told by police to leave the scene, and was asked if he had taken anything.

He allegedly produced a knife that belonged to Viehmeyer, police said. Buehlmann’s counsel, attorney Matthew Zeigler, claims there is no evidence that Buehlmann tried to steal the knife or to impair the investigation.

Buehlmann is charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
