We Have Mail

Dear James,
I was quite flattered to find my End 2 End journal on your website, and I hope your readers got as much enjoyment out of reading it, as I did living and writing it. Drop me a line sometime, and tell me if you had much, if any, feedback.
Sincerely,
Rick Barkley
I responded and asked Rick for an update, and he responded;

Jim,
We moved to Venice FL in December, which was another reason why I knew I had to squeeze the river between selling our home and moving south. If it didn't get done then, it wasn't ever going to.
This comcast address will be fine for sending to. I miss the North for kayaking; folks do it down here, but I'm not interested in playing in the gators' back yard. When people asked me about the dangers of walking in the early river, I told them Western PA streams were the safest place in the world (except for moss and rocks).
We'll be spending four months each summer in Brookville, so we may get a chance to meet. Get ready, too, for a trip coming this spring your way. A friend of mine I made through the End 2 End, Kim Cornell of Glenshaw PA is planning to do the same trip I did, but just walking the first 14 miles sans boat. Try looking her up at www.alleghenysojourn.com. In '04, she and another woman did the river in a canoe from Kinzua to Pittsburgh, right behind Hurricane Hugo.
Rick

Anyone who wishes to comment on Rick Barkley's trip kayaking the Allegheny from Gold to Pittsburgh may comment here and we'll pass it on to Rick in Florida.
