NY Cops To Check Out Cops

WESB News: 04/01/08 - NY State to Investigate it's State Police

NY State Gov. David Paterson has launched an unprecedented criminal probe of the State Police.

There are reports that a renegade unit may have compiled damaging personal information on Paterson and other top state officials.

Paterson feels that State Police may have interfered in New York state legislators lives

The state is looking into whether members of Eliot Spitzer's personal state police security detail were operating illegally behind the scenes.

Perhaps if these people did their job and didn't do illegal things they wouldn't worry so much. Sort of a waste of money to investigate the cops don't you think. They seem to be trying to do the right thing.

Are you kidding me? Investigating cops is silly?? You're talking about one of the most corrupt organizations in the world!! Not to mention the NY state police have had their share of scandals and debacles. On a sunny day drive an hour up Rte16 from Olean to Yorkshire and count how many local, State, and Sheriff patrol cars you pass. (You'd be amazed!) It's not about protection or safety. It's about money and anyone who believes otherwise is foolish. For instance, the seatbelt (and helment) law(s) are/is nothing more than a money maker and severe violation of civil liberties. Ask yourself why you don't have the right to choose whether or not to wear your seatbelt and why it's okay for millions of school children to ride a bus everyday without them. It's your life, in your hands, and it should be your choice. They don't ticket you for speeding anymore...they ticket you for "failure to obey a traffic device" and most people are grateful for the reduction. I know it's a "Catch22" but realize that they are NOT doing you a favor...they DO just want your money. NY state is broke, Potter county is broke...wake up!! Step back and reflect for one moment...do we really need the boat-load of State Police on Denton Hill, does Sweden Valley need an unstable Phelps running around, does Shinglehouse need more than one police officer...is there really any reason to have all these cops masquerading as "civil servants?!?!" No, no, NO!! It's a scary thought...to think people are so blind to the fact that protecting the public is only a bi-product of taking their money!! We don't need that many and my tax dollars would better benefit EMT's and volunteer firemen. And for you people who are comfortable with the current standard...remember that conformity doesn't always mean you're an upstanding citizen.
