Woolrich To Shut Plant--49 Will Lose Jobs

49 jobs trimmed by Woolrich in Jersey Shore

By MARK MARONEY mmaroney@sungazette.com

JERSEY SHORE — Nearly 50 Woolrich Inc. garment assembly workers are losing their jobs.

On Monday, company officials confirmed the plant on Shaffer Lane is shutting down its sewing division by October, eliminating 49 jobs.

“These decisions are never easy,” Woolrich President Jim Griggs said. The assembly workers were informed of the decision at a meeting early Monday, he said.

“We decided to let the employees know now so that they can make the decision that is right for them: to stay through October or to look at other employment options that might become available now.”

The reason for shutting down the sewing division was blamed on a decrease in orders for company-brand arctic parkas, primarily sold in European markets.
