Passerby And Quick Firefighter Response Save House In Coudersport Wednesday Afternoon

WFRM
Quick thinking on the part of a passerby and responding firefighters kept damage to a minimum when fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 pm at the Cobb residence on East Second Street in Coudersport.

According to First Assistant Chief Bryan Phelps, the homeowner had placed ashes from the wood stove in a five gallon plastic bucket on the front porch and a breeze fanned the ashes causing them to ignite.

The flames spread up the siding and decking and were spotted by Steve Kelly who notified 9-1-1.

Firefighters Kyle Eckert and Larry Beldin quickly arrived on the scene and began extinguishing the flames. 18 firefighters arrived on scene with four pieces of equipment and the situation was quickly brought under control.

Damage has been estimated to be about $1000.
