Govenor Signs Tax Break for Volunteers

Potter County Fire News

On Thursday July 10, 2008 Govenor Ed Rendell signed House Bill 377 which will provide active volunteer Firefighters and EMS personnel with a $100 state income tax credit when they file their state income tax returns for the 2008 tax year. Eligibility will be determined by a point system based on factors such as the number of calls responded to by the volunteer, training, and time spent on administrative and other tasks.

The legislation was supported in a bipartisan manner by both the Repubican and Democrat leadership in the House and Senate and the legislators in both the House and Senate. It is a pilot program for a one year period and is funded in the Buget in the amount of 4.5 million dollars for the year.
