Judge Rules Senecas Can't Operate Casino

Federal Court judge issues mixed ruling in downtown Buffalo casino lawsuit

Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino construction

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Federal Court judge has issued a mixed ruling in a lawsuit by Citizens Against Casino Gambling in Erie County.

Judge William Skretny ruled that the property by the Seneca Nation in Buffalo is sovereign territory, but also ruled that the Seneca Nation does not have the legal right to operate a casino on that nine acre site in Buffalo's Cobblestone District.

It is not clear at this time whether the casino operation must shut down immediately.

Both the Citizens Against Casino Gambling in Erie County and the Seneca Nation will hold press conferences Tuesday afternoon.

We will have more on News at 5 an 6, and WIVB.com.
