State Police Stop Speeder In Chase On I-80

High-speed chase in Clinton County ends in arrest

Centre Daily Times
A Bayonne, N.J. man is in Clinton County jail after police said he was clocked driving at 134 mph on Interstate 80 in Porter Township Monday evening.

State police said they tried to stop Albert P. Jowdy, 54, after he went through radar at that speed at about 4:45 p.m. Jowdy tried to elude police by traveling west at more than 100 mph and passing vehicles on the berm of the roadway, according to a report by state police at Lamar.

After a chase of about 10 miles, troopers deployed spike strips across the road in an effort to stop his vehicle, and Jowdy drove across the spike strips, puncturing the passenger side tires of the Chevrolet Corvette he was driving, police reported.

Jowdy finally stopped his vehicle when a trooper pulled his cruiser in front of his car as Jowdy was trying to pass more vehicles on the berm, police said.

Jowdy was jailed to await arraignment on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police officer.
