Emporium Teen Killed In Saturday Night Crash

WESB News: 09/08/08 - Emporium Teenage Killed in Accident

An Emporium teenager was killed Saturday night in a two vehicle accident in Shippen Township.

17 year-old Christopher Purcell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cameron County Coroner.

State Police say a vehicle operated by 25 year-old Nicholas Caton of Emporium passed another vehicle and never returned to the right lane. Caton’s car then struck Purcell’s SUV causing it to leave the road and roll over.

Three passengers in Purcell’s vehicle were taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Caton was uninjured. Police believe that alcohol is a factor in the crash.

It is tragic Chris was an amazing young man with A LOT of potential, he was a great athlete and super friend.
How many times do we need to learn the lesson about drinking and driving. Take the keys safe a life!
(alledgitivly) Nick made a terrible horrible mistake from the moment the keys went into the starter and he will have to live with it for the rest of his life. This mistake will change him and hopefully MANY others to be more responsible. He is a nice guy who would give you the shirt off his back. It just goes to show even nice people make mistakes.
I pray for all the family and friends, the town, the school, classmates, teachers and for anyone who gets in car.May we all be strong enough to be the change we need. God bless
