From The Editor Of Solomon's words

It's getting pretty close to two years that I have faithfully aggregated the news from the North Central Pennsylvania area, every day, 7 days a week, saving you many hours of valuable time searching the internet for news of interest to this area.

About a year ago, I contacted most of the funeral homes in the area, by mail and telephone, and offered them a free service to publish their obituaries in Solomon's words. Several funeral directors have faithfully sent their obituaries, and we have published them, sometimes within minutes, and sometimes within hours of receiving them. We send them an acknowledgment as soon as we publish so they know we received them and have posted them.

I have felt that it is an important feature for our readers, as I feel everyone wants to know when a friend or family has died and when the arrangements are. Many readers have written, saying they would never have known in time to go to a funeral or send flowers, if they had not seen it in Solomon's words. Especially if they live out of town.

Having a complete obituary published on Solomon's words online results in a permanent record on search engines throughout the world, that people can search by name. In order to get complete obituaries for this area, readers would have to buy at least five daily newspapers, and an unknown number of weekly newspapers.

Benj Olney at Olney Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kevin Dusenbury at Howard Funeral Home in Shinglehouse, and Bob Hartle of Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Home in Port Allegany, faithfully email complete obituaries to Solomon's words for the convenience of their patrons. Some other funeral homes send them when they happen to think of it, sometimes before the funeral, sometimes after.

My question is where would you like to read complete obituaries from the area? If you'd like to read them in Solomon's words, please indicate in the poll on the right side of the page, and ask the funeral directors that are not presently participating to send us their obituaries. We will be more than happy to publish them, with a picture if desired, free of charge. Our email address is shurfine40@gmail.com

Grandpa Jim,
I don't believe that I have voiced my opinion of this site to you. I am extremely impressed and proud of the way you have constructed, maintained, and sustained this website. It extends beyond the way you put a personal, compassionate touch on area obituaries. If the deceased is someone you know, there is generally an uplifting note to read from you or a passage from scripture, which is something not found anywhere else other than the funeral home. This website has been something that Uncle Ted and myself read every single day because it keeps us informed of home. Not only that, you give readers a chance to submit anything of there finding, or an opinion of some sorts for debate. The pictures that you take captivate things alot more than a local newspaper can. And those who submit pictures for your site have done outstanding work especially when there is one in which you can put a little story to it. You have done all in the area a great service. I hope that you are able to continue uninterrupted for many years to come. Congratulations on 2years of priceless service to the community. I trust that there will be many to follow.

Very grateful for your news and the obituaries. It is very easy to miss a funeral when you would love to show your respects to the family.

If you live in town Ulysses, it is easy to check on Olney's door..but
if you're out of town, it's fairly easy to travel in the other direction and miss showing respect to a friend.

I usually don't make any comments to my husbands site as I think he does an outstanding job, and I am partial so I usually stay on the sidelines .He is an outstanding, husband, person, friend, father, Christian etc. He works so hard everyday and into the wee hours of the evening to keep this site updated. The work in the house isn't getting done as fast as I would like but, the job he is doing for the community is worth the wait that I have. I hope that he can keep this site going for a very long time. Wonderful site honey!

I found this site while looking for local news after a car crash that took a young life from our community (Genesee). I have come back time and time again and now my day usually starts with "the news". Thank you for your great job of being objective, and covering news from all corners of the area.
If it is deaths, fire reports, common news, weather forecasts, wind turbines, drilling or community happenings. I so appreciate the work you do. Please keep us informed.

Nice, unselfish comment Cynthia!Hopefully someday,All of Dad's time and hard work will pay off! In this day and age of paying almost a dollar for a candy bar,I hope the advertisers in the area will support this great website and Dad can eventually make a little bit of a living for all his dedication and time!! I too check the site several times a day and it's nice to keep up on what's goin on up home!! Would pay a small subscription fee if needed be!! Beats the pants off a newspaper that's in the catpan the next day!! Brad Jones-Wpb,Fl.

Thank you for all your hard and time consuming work. Yes I check about twice a day and look for the obits especially. Of course I have noticed that Coudersport is not listed or is always the last to do something good. Keep up the good work and I hope you have many more years. God Bless you.

I really appreciate seeing the obits asap. Unless you happen to have someone you care about pass away on a Monday it is a whole week until you read about it in our local paper. Now we can check out our real source of information, Solomon's words. I sure wish our Coudy funeral home would make sure to send their information out to you as the ones you mention have done.
