High-Speed Internet Access Networking Event

If you are a business or resident who is interested in obtaining high-speed internet access, plan to attend a networking event on Wednesday, October 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Potter County Education Council Port Allegany office.

The event, sponsored by the Pennsylvania eCommerce Association, will highlight a broadband outreach and aggregation campaign starting this month in McKean and Potter counties. The association is working with the Potter County Education Council to help broadband deployment efforts for businesses and residents.

Information will be provided on the types of internet access available, a listing of service providers and efforts underway to encourage more deployment in McKean and Potter counties.

The association will explain a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania initiative: Bona Fide Retail Request or BFRR. The program is based upon residents and businesses applying for broadband through their local telephone company.

Once a threshold number of requests are received, the local telephone company is required to deploy broadband within one year.

Businesses or residents, by completing a survey, will indicate their interest and need for high-speed internet. Responses from this survey will determine the aggregate demand for broadband by geographical area.

Results will be shared with providers to encourage broadband deployment efforts.
If you are interested in knowing what you can do to encourage faster deployments of internet service, plan to attend this event by calling the Potter County Education Council at 814-642-2295.

Light refreshments will be served and there is no charge for this event.
