Potter County Commissioner Attends Meeting On Gas Drilling

Commission’s rules aimed at protecting basin’s water

By DAVID THOMPSON - dthompson@sungazette.com

Sun Gazette
The Susquehanna River Basin Commission Tuesday held a public hearing at Lycoming College to roll out proposed regulation revisions designed to streamline the water use application process for gas well development while protecting the river basin's water resources.

Potter County Commissioner Paul Heimel said he was concerned the proposed regulations did not include a provision requiring gas exploration companies to identify the chemicals used in hydrofracing operations.

Hydrofracing involves the pumping of large amounts of pressurized water, sand and chemicals into the ground to pulverize the shale and release the gas trapped within it.

Heimel also urged the commission to consider regulations that prevented water consumption during droughts. More...

Will gas drilling spoil our water?

Most of these chemincal compositions are proprietary infomration. Rather than see the financial benefits of natural gas exploration, Heimel wants more regualtion. Not hard to beleive with the way the commissioners have dealt with the windmill issue.

Is there anything these people don't want to try and regulate? There are state agencys that take care of that. You have gone spend and regulate crazy! And then try and figure out a back door way to tax anything that comes into the area instead of giving them some incentive.

"Anonymous said:Tax the gas company,
Tax the people on welfare."

Stop for a minute and think about it....

You are obviously on cloud 9 or smoking some wacky weed. If they tax the companies...they just pass that cost on too us and the goevernment get's more of our money.
Why would we tax people on welfare...they are already receiving our tax money. They should just make the people on welfare get jobs and quit having babies. I'm certain there are a lot of jobs out there that they can do, but nobody requires them to work. They need to change the food stamp rules also....i watched a family last week that bought nothing but junk food with overe $100 of food stamps....why not buy healthy foods and meats.
