Leadership Potter County 2009 Now Accepting Applications

Do you want to have a say in the life of your community? Would you like to get behind a community project or issue that has special meaning to you? Do you have concerns that you feel aren’t being addressed? You can make a difference! One of the most critical needs in the county is strong local leadership for the future well being of our communities. This program will help you expand your personal leadership skills, introduce you to key issues currently facing your region, and provide you with an understanding of future trends that may impact your community. Through this process, you will decide the best way for you to get involved. The deadline for applications is January 9, 2009. Potter County Human Services is offering free Parent Education Classes Monday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Park United Methodist Church Education Building. Free childcare is available by pre-registering with Human Services. Call 544-7315 or 1-800-800-2560. Topics to be covered include communication strategies, behavior strategies, education issues, homework strategies and related topics, family dynamics and money management. Attend any one or all sessions.

State police at Emporium will have a free child safety seat check Cool’s Auto, Route 155, Shippen Township from 11:00 a.m. to 21:00 p.m. For more information, call 486-3321. The check should take 20-30 minutes to complete. Take your child safety seat, vehicle manual and seat instructions.

Potter County Human Services, in conjunction with the 21st Century grant is sponsoring one-night Parent Educational Workshops in area school districts. Presentations will be made this afternoon from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. at the Oswayo Valley Middle School Planning Room. The classes focus on reducing family conflict and communication strategies, educational issues such as absenteeism and assisting your child with homework and tips for good grades. The PCEC Port Allegany Education Center will hold a Conceptual Artwork Series Class. This three-class series will explore three different areas of conceptual artwork. They include: Develop the concept on November 18, Review Progress of Artwork on November 25 and Conclusion and Evaluation on December 9. All classes will be held from 6 – 9 p.m. In this class, participants will work in a medium of their choosing. Please bring all materials and your spirit of artful adventure.
