Cost Of Living Results In State Raises

COLA Raises for Lawmakers?

Pennsylvania lawmakers and judges are in line for 2.8 percent cost-of-living raises.

Rank and file members of the state House and Senate will see their base pay increase to just over $78,000 starting next month. Members of leadership will get even more.

The pay for county judges will be about $162,000. The increases are tied to the regional consumer price index.

The same increases are due for Gov. Ed Rendell and his Cabinet secretaries. Rendell says he might suspend them as part of budgetary belt-tightening.

The legislators COLAs ought to be suspended too. I'm not getting any COLA this year and I'm not talking about Coke or Pepsi.

Once again the government makes out while hard working laborers get wage freezes! Even though it is only a small raise to them, no raises for hard working Americans hurts the economy harder!

where we are now folks should be talking about pay CUTS and only pay cuts!

C'mon people! You're talking about the government here!! When have they ever been known to take a pay cut? It may sound like a small amount, but 2.8% of a $162,000 slary is over $4500 per year.

Shame on our lawmakders and judges who apparently don't give a damn about the average everyday person who works hard to support their families...if you TRULY care maybe you should decline such a pay increase

Fast Eddie states "He Might"...he damn well better, the jerk!

He is cutting state funding to every county in PA because of our budget.
Too many businesses have had to close their doors in the past 2 years because our economy is in the toilet.

There will not be enough businesses left paying in all the taxes Fast Eddie pisses away for them to keep their income at the current pay rate! It is time we all contact our government in Harrisburg and tell them we want a FREEZE on THEIR pay NOW!!

a lot of state workers took pay cuts a couple years back. they also took pay freezes and had to increase payments for health care. nearly every state agency took a hit. then the legislative pay increases took place. it was a slap in the face to everyone who had to bite the bullett.
that said, it does amaze me that people get angry everytime a state worker gets a raise. i get a raise every year at the shop and it never makes the newspaper and no one ever complains about it. is that what they call a double standard?

Are you paid by the tax payers?

People get angry about their tax dollars going for raises while the tax payers have either taken a cut in pay or lost their job. AND "fast Eddie" had cut money out of the County budget for things like our DA's salary because things are tight...but 2.8% pay raise can be considered for him and his cabinet secretaries?!
Ya right!
