Former Pharmacist Held for Court
A 33 year old Coudersport woman was bound over to court on all counts following a preliminary hearing this week. Jennifer LaBenne is accused of 237 counts of obtaining a variety of narcotics thorough fraud, forgery and deception and one count of making a false claim to the department of public welfare. The state attorney general’s office claims that LaBenne, while employed as a pharmacist at the Coudersport Rite Aid between September 2005 and October 2007 altered prescriptions from several area doctors for her own use and submitted false reports amounting to almost $22,183. District Judge Barbara Easton, filling in for Judge Annette Easton ordered LaBenne held for county court. She was represented by attorney Donna Albright of Coudersport. LaBenne’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 4.

Snowy Road Blamed for Crash
A Port Allegany woman escaped injury in a one vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on Strang Hollow in Liberty Township. Kane-based state police said Linda Weakland’s southbound Chevy Trailblazer fishtailed on the snow and ice covered road while going up an incline. The SUV slid off the road and hit a tree. A two year old girl was in a child safety seat and escaped injury.

Archery Bear Season Ends Today
Pennsylvania’s two-day archery bear season ends today and hunters should be helped by the snowfall. The state-wide three-day statewide rifle season opens Monday. The Game Commission estimates the state’s bear population to number some 14,000 to 15,000.
